Retablo (Renaissance), Cuautinchan

Considered one of the three great Renaissance retablos to survive in Mexico, the main altarscreen at Cuautinchan is smaller and simpler than those of Huejotzingo and Xochimilco.   Large canvasses depicting the life of Jesus are separated horizontally by entablatures with friezes of angels and vertically by colorful baluster columns typical of the Plateresque.
