Rose of Lima

(1586-1617) Born in Lima, Peru, she was the first person of the Americas to be canonized (1671).  She took vows of virginity and lived a life of penitence and service.  She is the patron saint of South America and the Philippines.  She is also the patron of Indigenous peoples of the Americas.  Emblems: crown of roses, infant Jesus, anchor, city.
